LA Fixit Clinic
The most effective way to reduce waste is to prevent it in the first place. One great way to do that is by repairing broken items instead of throwing them away. Public Works’ LA Fixit Clinic program hosts free repair clinics throughout the County, offering residents an opportunity to have their broken items repaired at no cost.
These repair clinics have been an enormous success! On average, 75 percent of items brought into an event are repaired. That’s a huge win for residents who save money by avoiding buying new items. It also benefits the environment, because less waste is disposed in landfills.
Wondering what can be fixed?
At our events, we repair all kinds of items, including that old watch that stopped telling time, those dull knives that can’t even cut butter, the blender that won’t turn on, and even ripped clothing or broken zippers.
